A prosecution witness has told the FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja, that $760,910.84 was paid as advance school fees for the children of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, at the American International School Abuja (AISA).
The witness, Nicholas Okehone, an internal auditor with the school, testified that the payments were made through several international transfers from companies and individuals linked to the Bello family. The funds covered advance tuition for four of Bello’s children and another relative.
According to the witness, the payments were made under a “Pre-Paid School Fees Until Graduation” agreement signed between AISA and Ali Bello on behalf of the family.
He also revealed that the school later refunded the total sum of $760,910.84 to the EFCC after correspondence with the anti-graft agency, with the money paid into an EFCC account at the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Yahaya Bello is currently standing trial alongside Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu on a 16-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving an alleged ₦110.4 billion.
The court also heard testimonies about multi-million-naira property transactions in Abuja, including a ₦950 million Maitama property allegedly paid in cash using dollar bundles in “Ghana-Must-Go” bags.
Justice Maryanne Anineh adjourned the case to May 5, May 8, June 16, and June 17, 2026, for continuation of the trial.
