15 NYSC Corps Members Escape Kidnappers’ Den After Threat to Kill Them
Fifteen NYSC corps members abducted while travelling from the Permanent Orientation Camp in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, Bayelsa State, to Abuja have escaped from captivity in Kogi State.
A relative of one of the victims, Ayodele David, told FIJ that the corps members were not rescued, contrary to reports suggesting security forces had freed them.
David reportedly called his family using a random phone number, informing them that he and the other abductees had escaped and reached a nearby village.
The victims subsequently contacted their parents using a villager’s phone. Their families then alerted soldiers and other security personnel, who moved to their location.
According to David’s relative, the abductors had threatened to kill the corps members after one month in captivity.
The victims are now awaiting reunification with their families.
The 15 corps members were abducted on their way from Bayelsa to Abuja, with the kidnappers reportedly demanding ₦35 million for the release of one of the victims.
