What began as a bitter political confrontation between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken a dramatic turn, with Sandra Duru, also known as Prof. Mgbeke, now making allegations that have placed her own dealings with Akpabio under renewed scrutiny.

Duru has alleged that Akpabio engaged her to damage Natasha politically, including claims that she travelled between Nigeria, the United States and Europe in connection with the alleged assignment.

The latest allegations are striking because, in 2025, Duru had accused Natasha of offering her N200 million to make allegations against Akpabio—a claim Natasha vehemently denied.

Now, the narrative has apparently come full circle, with Duru alleging that Akpabio was actually behind an effort against Natasha.

Teddy Onyejuwe, National Coordinator of Action Collective, said the development should prompt Nigerians to ask who was really behind the competing campaigns and why the false narrative by Sandra Duru against Natasha in the first place.

“Whatever happened between Sandra Duru and Akpabio should now be addressed by the two of them.
Natasha should not be dragged into their current war,” Onyejuwe said.

He said the crisis between Akpabio and Natasha erupted publicly in February 2025 following a dispute over Natasha's seating arrangement in the Senate.

Natasha subsequently alleged that her problems with Akpabio were connected to alleged sexual advances she said he made toward her and that the issue dated back to December 2023 and alleged that Akpabio made inappropriate advances during a visit in Akwa Ibom.

The dispute escalated, culminating in Natasha's six-month Senate suspension in March 2025.

The latest accusations by Sandra Duru have now turned the spotlight back on Duru and Akpabio themselves.

Onyejuwe said the emerging allegations, if substantiated, would make it even more important to separate Natasha from the current dispute and that the conspirators should faced the music squarely.

“If there was an agreement, let those who allegedly made it explain. If there was a conspiracy, let the evidence establish it. But Natasha was not a party to whatever discussions may have taken place between Duru and Akpabio,” he said.

“Duru and Akpabio should fight their own battle. Natasha should not be their ammunition.” he disclosed

Onyejuwe said
one question now hangs over the entire saga: Did an alleged campaign against Natasha ultimately backfire on the people accused of being behind it?
