LAGOS — The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, has warned against the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create misleading videos capable of misrepresenting individuals and spreading false information.
Kumuyi gave the warning today during a combined service of the Deeper Life Bible Church in Gbagada, Lagos, following an encounter with an AI-generated video purportedly depicting him anointing someone with oil.
The cleric reportedly pointed out that the act portrayed in the video was inconsistent with his usual ministerial practice, raising concerns about the growing use of AI technology to fabricate events and attribute actions to people who never performed them.
The warning highlights the increasing challenge of distinguishing authentic video recordings from digitally generated or manipulated content as AI tools become more sophisticated and accessible.
Kumuyi's message serves as a caution to individuals, content creators and social media users against using emerging technologies to mislead the public, damage reputations or misrepresent religious leaders and other public figures.
Creating a video that falsely portrays a person doing something they have not done raises serious ethical concerns, particularly when the material is presented as genuine footage.
