Residents of Issele-Azagba erupted in jubilation as former House of Representatives Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, pledged to provide a brand-new electricity transformer for the community after more than two years without power.
Elumelu made the pledge during an empowerment programme organised by Hon. Peter Kanayo Nwakwushue, Ward 5 Councillor, under the leadership of Hon. Emmanuel Bazim Chinye, Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area. The programme also saw 200 constituents receive items to support their livelihoods.
Speaking at the event, Elumelu said the intervention followed a directive from the Delta State Governor after Ward 5 Chairman, Comr. Prince Francis Obi, raised the community’s electricity challenge.
“Immediately the Ward Chairman, Comr. Prince Francis Obi, mentioned the issue of transformer and low light, he has given me directive — Elumelu, give them light,” he said.
Elumelu disclosed that he had negotiated with transformer suppliers in Lagos, promising delivery by Saturday.
The announcement drew enthusiastic cheers from residents hopeful of an end to the prolonged blackout. However, electricity restoration will depend on the transformer’s delivery, installation and connection.
Meanwhile, Nwakwushue’s empowerment initiative provided support to 200 beneficiaries, highlighting efforts to address grassroots economic needs alongside the community’s infrastructure challenges.
