Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and APC candidate for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, has contributed N3.5 million towards the enrolment of 500 residents of Ward 11, Oshimili South, into the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme.
Elumelu made the intervention on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Ahabam Primary School, Cable, Asaba, during a Back-to-School programme organised by the Ekwueme Movement for Sheriff, led by Engr. Smart Meka.
The initiative provided more than 1,500 customised notebooks to over 300 pupils across five primary schools and facilitated health insurance enrolment for 150 beneficiaries.
Moved by the initiative, Elumelu immediately effected payment for an additional 500 residents, bringing healthcare support under the programme to 650 beneficiaries.
Elumelu described Meka as his “pride and beloved brother,” commending his sustained commitment to education, healthcare and grassroots empowerment.
He said supporting children’s education and expanding access to healthcare were investments in the future of the community.
Meka disclosed that the group had distributed educational materials to pupils for about three years and announced plans to distribute rice to residents in December.
Former Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye, who represented former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, commended the initiative and Elumelu’s additional health insurance intervention.
Delta North APC Chairman, Engr. Dan Ossai, also praised Meka’s consistency, noting that the group increased its beneficiaries from 100 children last year to 150 this year.
The programme attracted political leaders and community stakeholders, including Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, Ogbeshi Eluaka, Chief Edwin Uzor and other APC leaders and supporters.
The beneficiary schools included Ogboli Primary School 1 and 2, Ahabam Primary School and Enechara Primary School, among others in Ward 11.
The intervention brought together education and healthcare support, with organisers describing the programme as part of their grassroots engagement in the community.
