Over 600 Buildings Destroyed, 60,000 Evacuate as Massive Wildfires Ravage Washington

Wildfires are sweeping through Washington state's Spokane area, destroying neighborhoods and forcing about 60,000 residents to evacuate. More than 600 homes and other buildings have been damaged or destroyed as fast-moving flames, fueled by dry conditions and strong winds, continue to spread across more than 7,000 acres.
Firefighters from across the United States, along with crews from Australia, have joined the response. Despite their efforts, officials say the fires remain uncontained due to challenging terrain and wind gusts reaching 35 to 45 mph. Governor Bob Ferguson described the disaster as one of the most devastating in the state's history, noting that many families lost everything within just a few hours.
The wildfire crisis extends beyond Washington, with major fires burning across the Pacific Northwest. In central Utah, a rapidly expanding blaze has more than tripled in size and reportedly killed over 100 cattle. The National Weather Service has also issued air quality alerts, Red Flag Warnings, and extreme heat advisories across several western states.
Meanwhile, the eastern United States is facing a different threat. Torrential rainfall has triggered dangerous flash flooding in North Carolina, inundating homes, washing out roads, and causing an estimated $6 million in vehicle damage in Mount Airy. Flood watches remain in effect from Washington, D.C., through Philadelphia and parts of New Jersey as heavy rainfall continues.
