Corps Members Are Nigeria’s Pride, Don’t Waste Your Service Year — NYSC Director Advises
The Acting Director, NYSC South South Area Office II, Port Harcourt, Mrs. Olayinka Diana Nasamu, has urged Corps Members to see themselves as the “pride of Nigeria” and make the most of their service year.
Nasamu gave the advice on Thursday during an oversight visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, where she addressed the 2026 Batch C Stream I Corps Members undergoing their orientation exercise.
She described the NYSC Scheme as a “veritable platform for self-discovery and capacity building,” noting that the programme provides Corps Members with opportunities to develop discipline, resilience, integrity, diligence and a strong work ethic.
The Acting Director urged the Corps Members to strictly adhere to camp rules and regulations, while also encouraging them to remain grateful to God, their parents and guardians for their support and sacrifices.
She further advised them to appreciate their personal growth and recognise how far they had come in their journey through life.
Nasamu also urged the Corps Members to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training seriously, describing it as an opportunity to acquire useful skills for their future.
She encouraged them to love one another, build enduring friendships and avoid night travel at all costs.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator in Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe, told the Acting Director that the Corps Members had been “patriotic and excellent” in their participation in camp activities.
Oleghe disclosed that a total of 3,280 Corps Members, comprising 1,380 males and 1,900 females, were seamlessly undergoing the orientation exercise.
