The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) has urged Rivers State Government retirees enrolled in its health insurance scheme to utilise their healthcare benefits by accessing medical services at their designated healthcare facilities.
The appeal followed findings from an analysis presented at the agency’s Third Quarter Management Review Meeting, recently held at its office in Port Harcourt, which revealed that retirees were not utilising healthcare services under the programme as expected.
Expressing concern over the low utilisation rate, the agency emphasised that the programme was designed to improve access to healthcare services and reduce the financial burden of medical expenses on beneficiaries.
RIVCHPP reaffirmed that verified Rivers State Government retirees had been registered under the programme and encouraged them to visit their assigned healthcare facilities whenever they require medical attention.
The agency also advised retirees who are uncertain about their designated healthcare facilities or wish to change their existing facilities to contact its call centre through 08085315664 or 09046962204 for clarification and assistance.
It stressed that enrolment in the state’s health insurance scheme was intended to guarantee access to essential healthcare services, urging beneficiaries to take full advantage of their coverage rather than allow their benefits to remain unused.
RIVCHPP Raises BHCPF Enrolment Target to 111,865
In a related development, RIVCHPP has announced an increase in its enrolment target under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) from 84,054 to 111,865.
The revised target followed the Third Quarter Review Meeting of the Forum of State Social Health Insurance Agencies (SSHIAs), held in Abuja, as well as correspondence from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
To meet the new target, the agency’s management has resolved to conduct a Local Government Area (LGA) enrolment mop-up exercise across Rivers State in October and November 2026.
The exercise is aimed at expanding health insurance coverage by reaching more eligible residents and ensuring the state makes progress towards meeting the revised enrolment target set by the NHIA.
As part of the preparations, RIVCHPP has urged eligible residents to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN), which is a key requirement for enrolment in the programme.
The agency said the exercise would provide an opportunity to extend health insurance coverage to more residents, improve access to essential healthcare services and advance the state’s efforts towards achieving broader healthcare coverage.
RIVCHPP therefore encouraged eligible residents to meet the enrolment requirements and take advantage of the programme to access affordable and essential healthcare .
