Gunmen Kill Two Sons of MACBAN South-East Chairman in Enugu, Slaughter 40 Cattle

Two sons of the South-East Zonal Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Haruna Sale, have been killed by suspected gunmen during an attack on a cattle settlement in Oheoyya Community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The victims, identified as Ahmadu and Umaru, were reportedly murdered on Saturday when armed assailants stormed the settlement. The attackers also allegedly slaughtered about 40 cattle belonging to members of the association.
Confirming the incident, MACBAN's National Deputy Director-General, Gidado Siddiki, described the attack as a tragic assault on law-abiding citizens engaged in legitimate livestock business.
According to Siddiki, security operatives later recovered the bodies of the victims from a nearby forest, enabling their families to conduct Islamic burial rites.
"We sincerely appreciate the Enugu State Government and the security agencies for their swift intervention in recovering the bodies of the deceased from the forest," he said.
While commending the prompt response of the state government and security agencies, the association called for a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are identified, arrested and brought to justice.
MACBAN maintained that its members across the South-East are involved in lawful cattle rearing, breeding and trading and deserve the same protection as every other Nigerian citizen.
The association also appealed to residents of Enugu State to continue promoting peaceful coexistence between herders and host communities, stressing that dialogue and mutual understanding remain vital to sustaining peace and economic activities in the region.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful coexistence, respect for the rule of law and collaboration with governments, host communities and security agencies, MACBAN urged all stakeholders to work together to strengthen peace, security and national unity.
The incident comes amid persistent security concerns and recurring clashes involving herders and farming communities in parts of Nigeria, where disputes over land use, grazing routes and criminal activities continue to fuel violence.
