The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander, Operation Delta Safe, Major General Everest Ifeanyi Okoro, has described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a vital national asset, citing its contributions to nation-building, national unity and cultural integration.
He stated this during a courtesy visit by the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, and members of his management team at the GOC’s office in Bori Camp Barracks, Port Harcourt.
Major General Okoro commended the NYSC management and corps members for promoting national unity and fostering cultural integration among Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic and linguistic differences.
He assured the state coordinator that the Division would continue to implement robust security measures to protect corps members, particularly during their arrival in Rivers State for the orientation course.
The GOC also commended Oleghe for his integrity, dedication and commitment to strengthening the longstanding relationship between the Nigerian Army and the NYSC.
Earlier, Oleghe expressed appreciation to the GOC for his support for the Scheme, noting that the assistance had been encouraging despite the short time since he assumed office.
He said the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between the Nigerian Army and the NYSC, while appealing to the GOC to sustain the cordial relationship and continued support for the Scheme.
