Fubara Urges Corps Members to Contribute to Rivers State Development
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has described members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as critical assets to the growth and development of the state.
Fubara stated this on Thursday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, in Tai Local Government Area, while presiding over the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch C Stream I Corps Members deployed to Rivers State.
The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Promise Oguzie, urged the management of the NYSC to continue to evolve through pragmatic reforms that would keep the scheme relevant to the changing realities of today's graduate youths.
He also called for an expansion of the scope and operations of the scheme's flagship programmes to further enhance its impact, relevance and acceptance among Nigerians.
Fubara urged the Corps Members to uphold integrity, honesty, patriotism and the fear of God throughout their service year.
He specifically reminded them that some of them would serve as ad hoc staff for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2027 general elections, charging them to justify the trust placed in them by Nigerians.
In his welcome address, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, expressed confidence that the Corps Members were physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally prepared to serve their fatherland and make meaningful contributions across the state.
Oleghe commended Governor Fubara for approving the construction of two 1,000-capacity hostels for male and female Corps Members, as well as a new NYSC state secretariat and State Coordinator's lodge.
He expressed optimism that contractors handling the projects would soon be mobilised to site.
The oath of allegiance was administered to 3,414 Corps Members by Justice Frank Onyiri on behalf of the Chief Judge of Rivers State.
