Fubara to NYSC Members: Make Your Mark, Leave a Legacy in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT, Rivers State — Governor Siminalayi Fubara has challenged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to make their service year count by serving with patriotism, integrity and selflessness and leaving lasting legacies in their host communities.

Fubara gave the charge on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch B Stream II orientation course for Corps Members deployed to Rivers State.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Promise Oguzie, the governor reminded the Corps Members that they owe Nigerians a duty to serve with “integrity, commitment and dedication.”

He urged them to see their deployment to Rivers as an opportunity to contribute to nation-building and make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve.

Fubara also assured the Corps Members that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare and security, urging them to give their very best in serving the people of Rivers State.

Meanwhile, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, appealed to the governor to approve funds for the immediate construction of 1,000-capacity hostels for male and female Corps Members at the orientation camp.

Oleghe urged the Corps Members to make the most of their service year, describing it as a crucial period for developing skills, gaining experience and acquiring insights that could shape their future.

A total of 3,344 Corps Members successfully completed the orientation course. They comprised 1,357 males and 1,987 females.

With their orientation now complete, the Corps Members are set to begin the next phase of their national service across communities in Rivers State.
