Corps Members have been advised to shun abuse of drugs and illicit substances in order not to bring shame and ignominy upon themselves and their family.
The State Coordinator NYSC Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe gave the advice during the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization rally at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai.
Addressing the 2026 Batch A Stream I Corps Members on the occasion, Mr. Oleghe informed them that by the virtue of their mobilization into the noble NYSC Scheme, they are now at the threshold of living their dreams and becoming leaders in various facets of life which must not be truncated by drug abuse.
He said therefore enjoined them to stay away from drug abuse and addiction, noting that most negative tendencies of the youths were as a result of the consequences of drug abuse.
Speaking further, the Coordinator enjoined the Corps Members to take the lessons of the 2-day intensive sensitization lecture against drug abuse by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) very seriously so as to also become ambassadors of NDLEA against drug abuse.
Earlier, the Head of NDLEA on camp, ASN Etukudo Odot, warned Corps Members that the journey into drug abuse which begins with experimentation can lead to colossal consequences including mental disorder and ultimately death.
