Create Conducive Environment for Corps Members to Excel.. DG NYSC Tells Corps Employers

Corps Employers in Rivers State have been charged to intentionally create conducive environment for Corps Members to have productive and eventful service year.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brig Gen O O Nafiu, stated this tuesday at the Port Harcourt City Council, venue of the 2026 NYSC/Corps Employers workshop.

Represented by the Deputy Director, Certification and Mobilization, NYSC South South, Faustina Ilora, Gen Nafiu told the Corps Employers that the workplace served as the primary platform through which Corps Members acquire practical experience, develop professional competencies and contribute their skills to national development.

He disclosed that the quality of the workplace experience has a direct bearing on Corps Members productivity, morale, personal development, and overall perception of the NYSC Scheme.

He therefore urged the Corps Employers to provide Corps Members with meaningful assignments relevant to their qualifications as well as provide appropriate mentorship, supervision, and opportunities for their professional growth.

In a welcome address, the State Coordinator NYSC Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe said it was the duty of Corps Employers to provide a conducive environment and welfare for Corps members

He expressed the hope that the workshop would enable the Corps Employers and the managers of the NYSC Scheme to adopt new and strategic approaches that would improve the Scheme.

The guest lecturer, Dr. Sebastian Nwankwo, of the Department of Political Science, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education appealed to Corps Employers to be deliberate and intentional in harnessing the potentials of Corps Members through the creation of conducive environment for them to thrive.
The theme of the worksop was "Fine-tuning Stakeholders' Collaboration to Enhance Corps Members' Welfare and Workplace Experience."
